AI and National Security: Safeguarding Tomorrow – A Roundtable Series

Join the National Security Institute’s Cyber and Technology Center (NSI CTC) for a private multi-event program that delves into the vast implications of AI on U.S. economic and national security interests.

NSI CTC’s AI and National Security program consists of four sessions that will take place from late Spring to early Fall 2024. This program is open to current Capitol Hill staff only.  Attendance for all program sessions is expected; all sessions will be held on Capitol Hill.  Exact time and date of sessions will be announced shortly.

This program focuses on topics that explore how AI is both reshaping U.S. national security challenges and creating opportunities to strengthen U.S. global leadership, including:

  • The technical foundations of AI, including machine learning, neural networks, and deep learning.
  • The modern tech stack, including both hardware and software necessary for modern AI.
  • Current and emerging AI-enabled threats, focused on cyber, information operations, and military “targets.”
  • AI-enabled defense systems and capabilities the U.S. uses to protect against new threats.
  • The U.S. defense technology startup ecosystem, including acquisition, integration, and policy issues.
  • U.S. policies that impact the development and integration of AI, including those related to talent, intellectual property, and trade.

The program will culminate with a wargame simulation that pits the minds of our Congressional staffer participants, acting as the U.S. National Security Council, against an AI-powered China red-team, both seeking to react to and resolve an unfolding crisis in the Taiwan Straits.  After the simulation, program participants will analyze and compare human and AI decision-making, drawing lessons on how policy experts can think about and utilize AI within the scope of geopolitics and national security.

The NSI CTC aims to cultivate constructive conversations around the opportunities that artificial intelligence presents, not only for the advancement of American interests but also for the collective benefit of society worldwide.  Join us as we navigate the frontier of AI-driven innovation and chart a course towards a safer and more secure future.

The program is capped at 25 participants to generate more engagement.  While preference for participation will be given to Congressional Staffers serving as Chief of Staff, Legislative Directors, National Security Advisors, and AI and Tech Fellows, we encourage all interested Congressional staffers to fill out the form below.  We will follow up at a later date to confirm participation in the event series.
