John Funge

John is a venture capitalist and three-time founder and CEO with extensive experience building and scaling technology companies. His career began as a software engineer during the early days of the internet, when the Mosaic browser was first released, giving him a deep technical foundation and a firsthand understanding of trends that have shaped the digital economy over the past three decades.

John currently serves as a Venture Partner with cybersecurity-focused venture capital firm DataTribe and sits on the boards of three startups. From 2019 to 2024, he led investing and operations for DataTribe as Managing Director.

Prior to DataTribe, John co-founded and led three successful technology companies, all acquired by larger enterprises: Clara Vista acquired by CMGI (1999), Pickle.com acquired by Scripps Networks (2007), and BrightContext acquired by WealthEngine (2014). Following BrightContext’s acquisition, John served as Senior Vice President of Product Management at WealthEngine, leading product strategy for the company. His operational experience across diverse markets—from enterprise software to digital media to big data analytics—informs his approach to advising and supporting startups. John holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA from INSEAD.
