Karen Kraybill

Karen Kraybill, serves as the Director, Cyber Special Programs Division, Cyber Intelligence Directorate, Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence at Headquarters Department of Energy.  The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence is a member of the U.S. Intelligence Community and is responsible for all intelligence and counterintelligence activities throughout the DOE.

In this role, Karen leads a diverse team of cyber intelligence and technical personnel who serve on the front line of defending the U.S.’s Energy Sector.  Her team develops and implements intelligence informed technical solutions to identify, understand, and support mitigations of credible cyber threats to DOE, the National Nuclear Security Administration, and U.S. Energy Sector networks and systems.

Prior to joining the DOE, Karen served a 23-year career as an active-duty Department of the Air Force Special Agent.  During her military career as a counterintelligence and law enforcement leader Karen developed a deep background in the policy and planning aspects of cyber and counterintelligence operations as well as in the oversight and management of federal criminal investigations.  She has over 14 years of executive experience managing all operational planning, business development, human resources, and financial activities of federal counterintelligence and law enforcement organizations.  Karen is a highly successful joint operational planner and cross-functional team (CFT) leader with key experience building and maintaining complex CFTs that included memberships across the interagency, defense industrial base, and international partners.  She is a forward looking and innovative problem solver with a focus on the nexus of cyber operations, counterintelligence, and critical technologies.

A California native, Karen received her Masters of Arts degree in National Security Affairs from the Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, CA and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of California at Berkeley.  Karen currently resides in Northern Virginia.
