Kelly Moan serves as a Senior Security Engineer in the Office of the Chief Information Security Officer at the Department of Homeland Security. She focuses on providing architecture and engineering expertise on emerging technologies such as cloud deployments and IoT integration to provide the Department with the tools to enable secure innovation. Kelly also supports ongoing modernization and security operations optimization efforts by evaluating new and existing tool capabilities to ultimately manage the cyber risk of the portfolio.
Prior to joining the government, Kelly worked for a security startup, focused on deploying a next generation, machine learned based endpoint security tool to thwart cyber-attacks, leveraging indicators of compromise. Throughout her career, Kelly’s focus has been to improve security posture and to increase information sharing and collaboration across both government and industry to bridge the gaps experienced today and improve mission success. She aims to find innovative solutions to complex problems, continually looking for ways to think outside of the box. Her background has spanned both DoD and the civilian space, working for system integrators such as Northrop Grumman and CSC (now CSRA).
Kelly holds a bachelor’s degree from American University, and a master’s degree from Pennsylvania State University, World Campus. She was recently recognized as a 2017 FCW Rising Star. Kelly is also certified as a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH).
