Social Media Intern

The National Security Institute is looking for a Social Media Intern to join our growing team. The ideal applicant will possess strong knowledge of the digital media landscape, including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring media engagement and social networks and participating in online outreach and promotion. The National Security Institute at George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School is a platform for research, teaching, scholarship, and policy development that incorporates a realistic assessment of the threats facing the United States and its allies as well as an appreciation of the legal and practical challenges facing U.S. intelligence, defense, law enforcement, homeland security, and cybersecurity communities.  NSI consists of a 36-member Advisory Board who help guide the direction of the institute, 52 Visiting Fellows who produce policy papers and present at events, 14 faculty members who teach at the Antonin Scalia Law School, and 3 full time staff members who manage the day to day operations of the Institute.

Job Duties:

  • Work with the Program Assistant to create and implement social media campaigns
  • Monitor and record media hits for NSI’s Faculty, Fellows, and Advisory Board
  • Develop content to promote NSI’s events, media, and policy papers
  • Monitor analytics to identify viable promotion strategies
  • Assist in the general distribution of press releases and media alerts

Job Qualifications:

  • 20 hours of work per week
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms and tools including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Hootsuite
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Canva
  • Experience with Google Analytics and platform specific analytic tools
  • Interest in Government, Politics, and National Security preferred
